Rockport: The town of Rockport offers a welcome alternative to sitting in hours of Cape Cod traffic, and can be reached in less than one hour when driving from Boston. With dozens of galleries, shops, scenic beaches and seaside restaurants offering fresh-from-the-boat seafood, this charming destination with incredible ocean views is well worth visiting.
Mount Monadnock: One of the greatest hikes in New England, the rocky trek to Mount Monadnock’s summit is certainly worth the effort — and the mountain is less than two hours from Boston by car. At 3,165 feet, the isolated summit affords stunning views for miles around, and has become one of the most frequently climbed peaks in the world since it was first hiked in 1725.
New England Air Museum: Located two hours south-west of Boston, the New England Air Museum at Bradley International Airport is a must-see for aviation enthusiasts. Over 80 different types of aircraft from all periods of history are housed in the museum’s three giant hangars. Highlights include the 58th Bomb Wing Memorial Hangar (with the beautifully restored B-29 Superfortress as the centrepiece) and the flight simulator which allows visitors to take the controls of any plane from inside the virtual cockpit.
