Loch Ness: Best known for sightings of the Loch Ness Monster, Loch Ness is the largest body of freshwater in Britain based on volume. This area is also one of Scotland’s most picturesque locations, and can be reached in less than 30 minutes by car from Inverness. You may not spot the legendary monster, but you certainly cannot miss the breathtaking scenery which surrounds Loch Ness.
Fort William: Known as the ‘Outdoor Capital of the UK’, Fort William can be reached in around one hour and 40 minutes by car from Inverness. Lying in the shadow of Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain, the town welcomes a high number of tourists throughout the year. One of the main attractions is the Nevis Range ski, snowboard and mountain biking centre. From here, visitors can take the gondola 2,000ft up the mountain for stunning views and access to the ski slopes.
Dunrobin Castle: Scotland has many great houses, although few match the architectural splendour of Dunrobin Castle. The towering conical spires give this magnificent country home an almost châteaux-like appearance that is more French in style than Scottish. The castle and gardens are open to the public from the end of March to mid-October, and are just over an hour’s drive from Inverness.
