Dartmoor National Park: A 30-minute drive from Exeter is Dartmoor National Park. This wild landscape is made up of granite tors, heather-carpeted moorland and quintessential villages. If you love to walk, cycle or horse ride, there are miles of paths to explore. There are also a number of climbing and bouldering options, as well as plenty of hidden geocaching sites.
Killerton: Killerton is a National Trust stately home just a 25-minute drive from Exeter. This 200-year-old house, set in a landscaped garden, was owned by the Acland family. In the 1970s, it was left to the National Trust. Killerton is also home to a collection of period costumes dating back to the 18th century. If you’re a foodie, you can book into the award-winning restaurant and enjoy delicious food — most of which is grown on the estate.
Lyme Regis: Just under an hour from Exeter is Lyme Regis: a pretty seaside town in the neighbouring county of Dorset. A favourite of Jane Austen, this traditional town is brimming with great restaurants, coastal paths and a pretty harbour. There are also four beaches to choose from where you can explore rock pools, sunbathe and build a sand castle.
