Galway: Located just over an hour outside of Shannon, Galway is a historic harbour town and a stronghold of culture and the Irish language. Walk Galway’s cobbled streets to the backdrop of buskers and pubs playing traditional Irish music, take a stroll on the windswept beaches and enjoy some delicious seafood at one of the many restaurants.
Limerick: Limerick is a city that has more to it than meets the eye. In 2014, Limerick was Ireland’s City of Culture, and since then the street art scene has exploded. It’s not just art that has become popular in this Western Irish city: many restaurants are winning awards and there are plenty of historical sites to see (such as King John’s Castle and the Hunt Museum).
Cliffs of Moher: The dramatic Cliffs of Moher are only an hour’s drive from Shannon. Located on Ireland’s west coast, the cliffs rise 214m (702ft) from the sea’s crashing waves. On a clear day you can see out to the Arran Islands and Galway Bay. There are plenty of walks and viewing points along the Cliffs of Moher, and one of the best views can be had at the top of O’Brien’s Tower.
