Croagh Patrick: After visiting the National Shrine and Pilgrimage Centre in Knock, why not travel to the region’s other holy site? Croagh Patrick, which overlooks Clew Bay in County Mayo, is around a 90-minute drive away. The mountain is considered to be the holiest mountain in Ireland, and has been visited by pilgrims for over 5000 years — from the Stone Age to the present day. One of the highest peaks in the West of Ireland, rising to 750 metres, the mountain offers magnificent views of Clew Bay and the surrounding South Mayo countryside.
Enniscoe House: Enniscoe House is considered to be the last great house of North Mayo, and can be reached in just under one hour when driving from Knock. The Enniscoe Estate has belonged to the same family since the 1650s, and the magnificent ancestral home dates from the 1790s. Set amongst beautiful pastures with woodland and lakeside walks, this majestic location offers visitors the chance to experience life in a heritage house.
Céide Fields: Beneath the wild boglands of North Mayo lies Céide Fields. The stone-walled fields of Céide Fields extend for thousands of acres; and at almost 6,000 years old, they are also the oldest known in the world. They can also be reached in around an hour and twenty minutes when driving from Knock. The visitor centre has won several awards and is located amongst some of the most spectacular cliff and rock formations that Ireland has to offer.
