Popular car groups at Heathrow Airport

Heathrow (LHR)

Greater London

TW6 Hounslow, United Kingdom

One of the busiest airports in the world, Heathrow Airport is a popular pick-up location for people visiting the UK. Heathrow is conveniently located just 15 miles (24km) from central London, and close to the M4 and M25.

You will find all the major car hire companies at Heathrow Airport, serving the 190,000 people who use the five terminals each day. We want to make hiring a car simple, so we offer impartial advice and handy search tools which will help you find your ideal hire car.

Finding the best deal

We compare prices from all the major car hire companies (including Thrifty, Hertz and Enterprise) to give you access to exclusive deals. Don’t forget to look at the ratings and reviews by each car, so you can be sure you are renting with a trusted company. We value what our customers think, that is why we ask them to feedback on their overall rental experience. By booking with us, you can guarantee a great deal from a company you can trust.

You also have the option to book a one-way hire car; ideal if you are driving to a different destination and don’t want to travel all the way back to Heathrow to drop off your car. If the car hire company applies a one-way fee for this service, we will let you know before you commit yourself to anything.

Choice of cars

Cars at Heathrow Airport include practical mini and economy cars (small and easy to park), spacious estates and 9-seater people carriers (handy if you need plenty of room for passengers and luggage). You can also hire premium and luxury cars, which are perfect for business travel.

You will find cars with different fuel policies, but the full-to-full fuel policy is a great choice if you want to avoid hidden fuel charges. As long as you refill the tank just before the rental is over, you won’t pay any extra fees when you drop the car off.

You can also choose from a number of pick-up locations — so you can use the in-terminal service or take a shuttle bus to pick up your car off-site. We make all this information visible when you search, and by using the custom filters, you can quickly find a car to suit your needs.

Tips and advice

  • 1
A number of car hire companies have a pick-up counter in each terminal.
  • 2
Remember certain areas of central London are subject to the Congestion Charge, meaning you pay £11.50 per day if you drive in the Congestion Charge Zone between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.
  • 3
There are a number of 24 hour petrol stations serving Heathrow.
  • 4
If you are leaving from Terminal 1, 2 or 3, drive north and go through the tunnel underneath the northern runway, then head along the M4 once you come out the other side. Go north for a mile, then turn left onto the M4 westbound — from here, you can go in any direction.
  • 5
The road from Terminal 4 will take you directly onto the M25: simply head south out of the car park and turn left onto the Southern Perimeter Road. Continue through three roundabouts then join the Airport Way (where you can merge onto the M25 and travel in any direction).
  • 6
Terminal 5’s exit also takes you onto the M25. Go straight onto the roundabout, then take the western exit (a ramp onto the motorway).
