Why rent a car in Palermo with Rentalcars.com?

We hope to make hiring a car in Palermo, Sicily, simple and stress-free. To help you find your perfect car from the right supplier, we provide you with easy-to-use search tools, handy filters and customer reviews — as well as telling you exactly what’s included in your rental before you commit to a booking. We are more than just a comparison site; we deal with a wide range of national and international car hire companies directly, so we can give you exclusive deals (and in most cases, the cheapest rental prices). Some of the companies we deal with Palermo include Hertz, Sixt and Maggiore.

Top Tips

  • If you park in a blue-lined space, it will generally cost €1 per hour. You can buy parking tickets from shops, bars and tobacconists.
  • One of the most central car parks in Palermo is Piazza Ungheria, which is in walking distance from all the main attractions.
  • Demand for cars is high in the summer months, so book well in advance if you’re visiting Palermo in the peak season.

Which companies offer best value in Palermo?

Some suppliers (especially Italian companies like Locauto, Noleggiare and Sicily by Car) have cars with a special offer — so you could get a GPS or an additional driver at no extra cost. You will see which cars such offers apply to once you search on our site. Of course, there’s more to good value than freebies; you want to be sure the company is one you can trust. To help you understand which suppliers have the best reputation, we show reviews and ratings left by previous customers next to each listing. After all, we think being impartial is the best way to be.

Day trips from Palermo

Cefalù: Just under 80km from Palermo, Cefalù is a historic seaside town that exudes charm and character. Boasting a maze of narrow streets lined with cafés and restaurants, the medieval old town is home to the Duomo — a stunning Norman cathedral, decorated on the inside with glistening Byzantine mosaics. For spectacular views over the city, try climbing ‘La Rocca’ — a large crag which overlooks the town. Although the ascent is quite steep, the views you will be rewarded with at the top are well worth the effort. If you want a more relaxing way to spend your time, head to the town’s sandy beach.

Segesta: About a 90-minute drive from Palermo, Segesta is an archaeological site where you will find Ancient Greek ruins. The site was one of the main cities for the Elymian people (one of the three indigenous groups of Sicily), although Ionian Greeks lived there as well. The Doric Temple on the outskirts of Segesta is particularly well preserved — it is believed it was built by an Athenian architect in the 420s BC. The site also features an impressive amphitheatre.

Zingaro Nature Reserve: The Zingaro Nature Reserve is about one hour and 20 minutes from Palermo by car. This beautiful stretch of coastline is an idyllic haven, with pebbled beaches and some of the clearest waters in the whole of Sicily. You will also find fascinating caves, coves and sea stacks which have been formed by the sea eroding the limestone cliffs. Not only is Zingaro a great sunbathing spot, the park is the perfect place to see some wildlife — including owls, eagles, weasels, hedgehogs and even vipers (don’t worry, they’re harmless!).
