Why rent a car in Venice with Rentalcars.com?

At Rentalcars.com, our team negotiate with all the major car hire companies to bring you cheap deals on car hire, including many which are exclusive to us. You will find a wide range of cars — from brands such as Sixt, Hertz, Avis and Locauto — at pick-up locations across Venice (such as Marco Polo Airport and the Mestre Train Station). Finding your ideal hire car has never been easier: just use the simple search form to tell us when you need a car, then filter the results based on your criteria.

Top Tips

  • As the only totally car-free town in Italy, you cannot drive in Venice. However, please bear in mind that the cost of parking your car can be very expensive. Of all the parking lots in Venice, the airport is one of the cheapest options.
  • Venice can be very warm during the summer months. Therefore, it may be a good idea to book a rental car with air conditioning.
  • There are frequent tollbooths on the Italian highway, and you can pay with cash or a debit card. Information on toll charges can be found on the Autostrada website.

Which companies offer best value in Venice?

Some car hire companies (such as Green Motion, Noleggiare and Locauto) often have special offers on their cars — so you get something extra included in the rental price (an additional driver or snow chains, for example). However, we know there is more to good value than freebies; you want to be sure you’re renting with a trusted company. To help you make your mind up, we show reviews and ratings from previous customers next to each listing. After all, we think being impartial is the best way to be.

Day trips from Venice

Padua: Although it takes just under an hour to drive to Padua from Venice, this charming medieval town seems a world away. Often overlooked by visitors, perhaps due to the town’s proximity to Venice, Padua is one of Europe’s great cultural and artistic destinations. The main attraction is the Scrovegni Chapel, with its priceless frescoes by Giotto. The cobbled streets of Padua’s medieval old town are lined with antique shops, cafés and restaurants, and are noticeably less crowded than the bustling streets of Venice.

Verona: Verona is one of the most charming places to visit throughout Italy, and can be reached in under an hour and 30 minutes travelling from Venice by car. There is plenty to see here, from Roman ruins to the so-called ‘Juliet’s Balcony’. The town is a magnet for visitors, particularly during the summer opera season. The ancient arena, which is one of Italy’s best-preserved Roman amphitheatres, provides the stunning back-drop for operatic performances.

Vicenza: A thriving and cosmopolitan city with a rich cultural history, Vicenza can be reached in less than an hour when driving from Venice. The picturesque location has many museums and art galleries. However, Vicenza is most famous for the Palladian Villas of the Veneto, which have been named by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
