Constructed between 1542 and 1561, replacing a gothic fortress from the thirteenth century, the castle has been rebuilt several times throughout the following centuries. Other valuable monuments in Oleśnica are the Pentecostal Church (which in the middle ages served as a synagogue), a Baroque Trinity Church and St. John the Evangelist Minor Basilica — which is one of the oldest churches in Silesia.
