Yes – one-way car hire in the USA is possible. If you want to drive coast to coast from Chicago to LA, or between any other cities, just choose a different drop-off location. Be aware that many car hire companies charge a One Way Fee, also known as a drop charge, for this type of rental.

Many car hire companies charge what is known as a Young Driver Fee. However, the definition of a ‘young driver’ varies from company to company – some charge a fee if you are under 21, while others will charge if you are under 25. The size of the young driver fee also varies according to car class and engine size.

If you are booking a hire a car in the USA as a foreigner, you will be required to purchase a package that includes a Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), as well as Theft Protection. These cover your rental in case the car is damaged or stolen, and typically have a low excess, or no excess whatsoever.
