Montreux: Situated on the eastern side of Lake Geneva, the picturesque town of Montreux is just over an hour’s drive from Geneva city centre. Take a leisurely stroll along the lakeside promenade and soak up the breathtaking natural beauty that surrounds you. The town benefits from a mild micro-climate, so expect to see palm trees lining the walkways. If you’re a fan of jazz music, be sure to visit Montreux in July, when the annual Jazz Festival is held in the town. A visit to the Château de Chillon is also a must — the well-preserved island castle on the outskirts of the town is more than 1000 years old.
Annecy: Why not spend the day in a different country and take a drive to the French town of Annecy? Just 40km from Geneva, Annecy has a truly romantic feel to it — with cobbled streets, colourful houses and beautiful canals which meander through the centre of the town. A medieval château (where you will find a museum showcasing regional artefacts) overlooks Annecy.
Lausanne: An hour’s drive from Geneva, the city of Lausanne is brimming with history and culture. The ‘old town’ is a maze of medieval streets, and it’s here where you will find an ornate Gothic cathedral and the Palais de Rumine — a 19th-century Renaissance building housing several museums (including ones dedicated to fine arts, archaeology, money and zoology). The city is also home to the International Olympic Committee Headquarters and the Olympic Museum.
