Cointrin (GVA)

1215 Le Grand-Saconnex, Switzerland

With both a French side and a Swiss side, Geneva Airport sees a high demand for car hire — as visitors often want the freedom to explore two countries in one visit. The airport is also one of the main gateways into many of the French and Swiss ski resorts (such as Chamonix, Courchevel, Val d'Isère, Portes du Soleil and Leysin).

A hub for easyJet flights from both the UK and mainland Europe, the airport is located 4km (around 2.5 miles) from the city centre. In 2014 alone, more than 15 million people passed through the airport – and every year, we help people from all over the world find exclusive car hire deals at Geneva Airport.

Getting a great deal

By searching on our site, you can quickly compare prices from all the major car hire companies (like Avis, Hertz, Europcar and Budget). To give you excellent value for money, cars will often include the winterisation fee (a mandatory charge that covers equipment such as winter tyres) in the price.

Booking a car with a full-to-full fuel policy will also help you avoid unexpected fuel charges. Simply refill the tank just before the end of your rental and you won’t pay any additional fees when you drop the car off at the counter.

We also ask each customer to provide feedback on their rental experience, giving you helpful, impartial advice — you can see exactly what they have to say about each company when you search. After all, we believe honesty really is the best policy.

Choice of cars

Choosing your perfect hire car couldn’t be easier — whether you want something small and compact, a stylish convertible or a people carrier with plenty of room for your luggage and skiing equipment, there is a car to suit everyone.

You can also filter the results by using the handy side bar, so you can quickly find a car that meets your needs. Not only that, but we explain everything that is included in the price; meaning no nasty surprises when you get to the rental counter.

Tips and advice

  • 1
If you hire a car on the French side, a vignette (a sticker applied to the windscreen which allows you to drive on Swiss autoroutes) may not be supplied as standard.
  • 2
There are a number of fuel stations close to Geneva Airport.
  • 3
The Swiss side gives you quicker access to the motorways for Switzerland, France and Italy, whereas on the French side, you will have to drive further on the smaller roads before coming to the motorway network.
  • 4
To enter France from the Swiss side, exit the pick-up car park onto the filter slip road, go straight on and follow the green signs for France/Motorway. After going straight through several junctions, you will reach a T-junction — turn left, but be in the right-hand lane so you can immediately take the filter road right that leads onto the motorway. Once on the motorway, follow the signs for France to the border crossing.
