Why rent a car in Shannon with Rentalcars.com?

Our team negotiate with all the major car hire companies to bring you cheap car hire deals in Shannon. Many of the prices you see on our site are exclusive to us, so you won’t find the same great offers anywhere else. In one simple search, you will see fantastic deals from brands like Avis, Budget and Carhire by Europcar — and to make finding your ideal hire car even easier, you can filter the search results based on your criteria. We are more than just a comparison site: we are an end-to-end service, here to make your rental experience easy and stress-free.

Top Tips

  • Ireland may be small but the roads are mostly single lane, and even on the motorway traffic can move slowly. Because of this, it may take longer than you think to get to your destination.
  • When driving on rural roads, watch out for loose farm animals.
  • We recommend requesting a GPS or bringing your own when driving round the west of Ireland, especially if you plan to drive on rural roads.

Which companies offer best value in Shannon?

It can be difficult to know which companies offer the best rental experience — so to help you decide who to rent with, we show ratings and reviews left by previous customers next to each listing. After all, we think being impartial is the best way to be. Don’t forget: you will also avoid hidden fuel charges if you choose a car with a full-to-full fuel policy (as long as you refill the tank before dropping the car off, you won’t be faced with any refuelling costs).

Day trips from Shannon

Galway: Located just over an hour outside of Shannon, Galway is a historic harbour town and a stronghold of culture and the Irish language. Walk Galway’s cobbled streets to the backdrop of buskers and pubs playing traditional Irish music, take a stroll on the windswept beaches and enjoy some delicious seafood at one of the many restaurants.

Limerick: Limerick is a city that has more to it than meets the eye. In 2014, Limerick was Ireland’s City of Culture, and since then the street art scene has exploded. It’s not just art that has become popular in this Western Irish city: many restaurants are winning awards and there are plenty of historical sites to see (such as King John’s Castle and the Hunt Museum).

Cliffs of Moher: The dramatic Cliffs of Moher are only an hour’s drive from Shannon. Located on Ireland’s west coast, the cliffs rise 214m (702ft) from the sea’s crashing waves. On a clear day you can see out to the Arran Islands and Galway Bay. There are plenty of walks and viewing points along the Cliffs of Moher, and one of the best views can be had at the top of O’Brien’s Tower.
