The car I ended up with was great but I had to pay for an upgrade because the car type I reserved was not the same size or doors as what I was offered and I was forced to upgrade.
I continue to have the same frustrating problem using rentalcars.com. If you look at my reservation, it was for a Toyota Corolla or similar. I can fit my luggage in a Toyota Corolla, I've done it before. What was offered to me at the desk was a Hyundai Veloster which is a 3 door coupe with barely room enough for ONE of my suitcases.
