Popular car groups at Madrid Airport

Madrid Airport (MAD)

Avenida de la Hispanidad, s/n, 28042 Madrid, Spain

Spain’s largest and busiest airport, Madrid Airport is used by a staggering 39 million passengers each year. The airport is a popular hire car pick-up location for visitors who want the freedom to explore the capital and the traditional towns and cities in the area — its close proximity to a number of autopistas and main roads means hiring a car is a great way to get around.

Each year, we help visitors from all over the world find and compare cheap car hire deals, across a range of vehicle groups (including convertible and luxury cars).

Finding a great deal

We bring you exclusive deals from a number of car hire companies at Madrid Airport (including all the big names like Hertz, Avis, Sixt, Budget and Europcar) — with no credit card charges. What’s more, most companies have in-terminal pick-up counters to help you get your trip off to a smooth start; just use the filters when you search to find ones that do, and to tailor the results to suit the rest of your needs.

Cars at Madrid Airport often come with a free additional driver — perfect if you want to split the driving with another member of your group.

We understand it can be difficult to decide which company to rent with. To help you make your mind up, we ask each customer to provide feedback on their overall rental experience (from the condition of the car to the speed of pick-up and drop-off). You can see what they think by each car when you search on our site. After all, we think being impartial is the best way to be.

Hidden charges are often a worry for people hiring a car, but they needn’t be if you book a car with a full-to-full fuel policy. With this policy, as long as you refill the tank just before your rental is over, you won’t pay any more fuel fees when you drop the car off.

Choice of cars

Whether you want something suitable for city driving, a family-sized vehicle or a spacious people carrier, there is a car to suit you.

The small yet nifty mini and economy cars are ideal for driving around Madrid city centre, as they are easy to park and manoeuvre. If you need a bit more room, consider an intermediate or standard car (which generally has space for two large bags and one small bag), or an estate (which can usually hold three large bags). For larger groups, there are people carriers for between five and nine people.

Tips and advice

  • 1
The airport is 12km north-east of Madrid’s historic city centre.
  • 2
You will find a number of autopistas around the airport — if you are unfamiliar with the area, you might want to request a GPS. The airport is linked to the Madrid bypass, which connects to the main roads leading in all directions.
  • 3
Madrid’s roads can get very congested, so allow plenty of time for your journey.
  • 4
Don’t forget to think about how much luggage space you need, as well as how many people are in your party.
  • 5
If you are visiting in summer, make sure your hire car has air conditioning to keep you comfortable in the heat.
