Popular car groups at Munich Airport

München (MUC)

85356 München, Germany

The second busiest airport in Germany, Munich Airport is the ideal pick-up location for people who want to explore the city of Munich, the state of Bavaria – and beyond. With easy access into the city, the drive from Munich Airport is straightforward. There are two major routes that take you into the heart of the city, with the shortest route (37km) down the A92 and via the A9 taking approximately 33 minutes.

At the airport there are many car hire companies providing rental cars to some of the 40+ million passengers that pass through each year. With Rentalcars.com, it is easy to compare the prices and fees charged by each car hire company.

We are here to help you find exclusive car hire deals at Munich Airport, as well as all other airports around the world.

Finding a great deal

In one simple search we compare all the international car hire companies at Munich Airport (like Hertz, Budget and Sixt), as well as national firms (such as Caro and Buchbinder).

Various companies apply different fees for different add-ons and services — such as additional drivers, excess mileage, one-way rentals, winterisation (a charge to cover the cost of supplying the car with specialised equipment for winter driving, such as winter tyres) and more. Whatever the fees are, we will let you know what you’re expected to pay before you commit yourself to anything.

For people nervous about fuel charges, we recommend choosing a car with a full-to-full fuel policy. So long as you remember to refill the car with fuel just before drop-off, you will not have to pay any extra fees.

We also know finding a great car hire deal is not just about price; we want your rental experience to go as smoothly as possible. Our customer reviews will help you decide which company to hire with.

Book a hire car at Munich Airport with us, and have peace of mind that you’re getting the right car from a company you can trust.

Choice of cars

There is a great selection of cars at Munich Airport, ranging from mini, economy and compact cars though to spacious people carriers, SUVs and luxury cars.

The pick-up location for your car will vary depending on which car hire company you choose — some companies have their counters in the terminal, while others are in the car rental centre (between Terminals 1 and 2) or off-site (with a shuttle bus or ‘meet & greet’ service to take you there).

Finding your perfect hire car couldn’t be easier: just use the side bar to filter the results by supplier, rating, pick-up location, size, fuel policy and specifications (such as diesel cars and vehicles with automatic transmission).

Tips and advice

  • 1
You will find the car rental centre in the central area between the two terminals.
  • 2
If you’re happy to take a shuttle bus or use a ‘meet and greet’ service to get to your car, consider booking a car from an off-site company, as this can be a great way to save money. Just use the ‘supplier location’ filter on the left-hand side of our search results page.
  • 3
If you’re driving into Munich, follow the blue signs to the A92 as you leave the airport. The A92 will take you to the Munich ring road, giving you access to many of the other autobahns and main roads in the area.
  • 4
Although Munich Airport is generally busy all year round, it gets particularly crowded at certain times of the year: in September and October, for example, when the annual Oktoberfest is held in the city.
  • 5
To get your rental off to a rapid start, you may wish to leave one person waiting for your suitcases at the carousel — while the driver heads to the car hire counter.
