Oradour-sur-Glane: A poignant place, Oradour-sur-Glane is a testimony of the brutality of war. In World War II, the village was destroyed and all of its inhabitants massacred by the Nazis. The village was never rebuilt, and the ruins stand as a permanent memorial and museum. The museum holds many personal items of those who perished.
Périgueux: Périgueux is the ‘capital’ of the Dordogne department — even though the town is not on the Dordogne River. Located on the Isle River, around 100km from Limoges, Périgueux is a historic town that is rich in culture. You can explore the medieval streets, Roman ruins, 15th-century merchant’s houses and beautiful churches. Once you’re done, enjoy a bite to eat in one of the many cafés.
Rocamadour: Rocamadour is a fairy-tale-like, fortified monastery and town that clings to a mountainside in the Lot department. Once an important place of pilgrimage, most of the visitors today are tourists. Walk the medieval high street, hike up the hill to the castle and see the Black Madonna in the Chapelle Notre-Dame.
