Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) limits the driver’s liability in the event that the rental car is damaged, subject to the terms of the rental agreement.
Rather than the full cost, the driver is generally only responsible for the first portion, known as their ‘excess’.
This protection applies to all authorised drivers of the rental car.
Third-Party Liability (TPL)
Third-Party Liability (TPL) covers the driver’s liability for damage to any property, excluding the rental car itself. TPL also covers injuries suffered by other people, whether or not they are in the rental car, subject to the terms of the rental agreement.
Theft Protection (TP)
Theft Protection (TP) limits the driver’s liability for costs incurred by the theft of the rental car – or damage incurred by the theft or attempted theft – to an ‘excess’ amount, subject to the terms of the rental agreement. TP does not cover personal effects, which may be covered by the driver’s own travel or household policies.

What you need at pick-up
Acceptable forms of payment
You are required to have a Credit Card for this booking.
The main driver must be in possession of a Credit Card in their own name when picking up the car. The Card must have enough available funds to cover the excess / deposit amount (which will be blocked on the Card for the duration of the rental). The Card will also be required to pay for local fees, extra equipment and anything purchased additionally at the car hire counter.
Cash and Debit cards are not accepted.
Accepted Credit Cards
This company will not accept prepaid, recharge or virtual credit cards – or any card on which the relevant characters are not raised (‘embossed’).
Visa Dankort cards are not accepted.
Not all car hire companies accept Chinese UnionPay credit cards. Please check the UnionPay website for details.
When picking the car up, the main driver and any additional drivers will need to provide a full driving licence in their name.
All drivers must have held their driving licence for at least 3 years.
Not all suppliers accept the Chinese Driving Licence and its notarised translation.
Rentalcars.com aims to tell customers everything they need to know to pick their car up. However, each driver is responsible for making sure they are allowed to drive the hire car in their selected country / countries – and for providing counter staff with the documentation that proves this.
An International Driving Licence is required if the driving licence is printed with non-Roman Alphabet.
Forms of Identification
A Passport is required.
Rental Voucher / eVoucher
When picking the car up, the main driver must present their Rentalcars.com Voucher / eVoucher, which is issued after your booking is confirmed
A voucher proves that the rental is booked in a customer's name and that it's paid for.
At pick-up, the car hire company will require a printed copy of the customer's voucher. If this is not presented, the car hire company may not allow the car to be picked up, or may charge again for the rental.
Minimum age limit for this car is 23.
Maximum age limit for this car is 70.
The car hire company’s age-related charges and restrictions will apply to all additional drivers.
Flight Details - If you are arriving by plane, you must inform us of your arrival flight number at least 3 days before your rental is due to start. If you do not, we cannot be held responsible if your plane is delayed and as a result your car is not available. Please ensure that you enter your flight number and not any other number the airline may have sent you, such as a confirmation number.
If you have already completed a booking without supplying your flight details, you can add them on our website, using the ‘My Booking / My Account’ section.
Deposits, Excess and Cover
Deposit / Excess
Due to fluctuating foreign exchange rates and other possible banking charges, the car hire company cannot be held responsible for any difference between the amount paid and the amount refunded.
If you purchase the Rentalcars.com Full Protection waiver product before you pick the car up, we will waive your liability (and refund you) for:
charges for damage to the rental car’s exterior or mechanical components, including:
bodywork, roof, undercarriage
windscreen, windows, mirrors
wheels, tyres, hubcaps
engine, clutch, battery
‘immobilisation’ charges (for loss of revenue while the car is being repaired and cannot be rented out)
roadside assistance charges resulting from a breakdown or accident
charges directly related to locking yourself out of the rental car or losing its key(s)
the amount the car hire company charges as a result of claiming on the car’s Theft Protection policy
car hire company administration fees related to any of these points
Rentalcars.com’s Full Protection waiver product will not waive liability in respect of:
repairs, roadside assistance or other services not approved by the car hire company
cleaning charges or damage to the car’s interior (unless caused by a collision)
damage to / loss of child seats, GPS devices or other ‘extra equipment’.
All drivers must abide by the terms of the rental agreement: our Full Protection waiver product will not refund any cost incurred under circumstances which violate those terms, such as dangerous, careless or negligent driving, refuelling errors, or driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
If you purchase our Full Protection waiver product, the car hire company will still block your credit card with a deposit when you pick your car up, to cover potential damage to or loss of the rental car – but our Full Protection waiver product means that we have waived your liability to pay for the charges detailed here and we will refund the sum withheld from the deposit to cover these charges, subject to the terms described here.
If you purchase any of the Rentalcars.com products to protect your excess during your rental, you will be receiving the benefits of the product; therefore we are not able to issue a refund if you do not make a claim.
At the car hire counter, you may decide to buy additional cover to reduce or remove your excess, or to cover things your Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) doesn’t, such as tyres and windscreen.
Please note: if you do, the contract will be between you and the car hire company. Since Rentalcars.com will not be involved at all, we won’t be able to help if you’re dissatisfied with the cost of the policy or the cover it provides.
Please make sure you read the terms and conditions of the cover you receive when signing the rental agreement at pick-up, to find out about the policy’s exclusions and limits.
Policies normally exclude things such as windscreens, glass, wheels, tyres, undercarriage, interior, personal belongings, towing charges & off-road time – as well as any ‘extra equipment’ hired from the car hire company, such as child seats and GPS devices.
Note that your cover will be invalidated by negligence, refuelling errors or breaking the terms of the rental agreement (for example, by driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs).
Before purchasing any cover, please check any travel or vehicle policies you already have, as they may provide equivalent cover.
